Maurita Crossley Carter

Dec. 6, 1919 ~ Feb. 14, 2011

On December 6, 1919 a spunky, fun, crazy, silly, tricky girl was born to William Henry Crossley and Evie Elvina Arnell in St. Charles Idaho. Rita lived for 91 years, although the past 5 years she hasn't been herself. The problems incident to old age have taken away some of her zest', and Rita died on February 14, 2011. Rita was raised and completed High School in St. Charles, moving to Provo, Utah after her marriage to Edward F. Carter in 1938. Rita lived the rest of her life in Provo, raising her family of one daughter and four sons. She worked as a nurse at the Utah Valley Hospital, and she and Ed worked for some years at the Ettie Lee Boys Ranch. For many years Rita volunteered at the Provo Eldridge Center and at other Civic organizations in Provo, winning the Mother of the Year award in 1994. Rita loved to cook, especially at holiday time. She loved Halloween, when she would dress up in scary costumes to frighten her kids!!

Rita was very active in the LDS church, serving in a variety of capacities, several times as Primary President, and as Relief Society President. She worked in the Provo temple for many years, and served a Mission in the Phillippines in 1991 and 1992.

Rita had 5 children, 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. She is survived by Nancy K. Jackson (Paul), of Provo, Utah; Robert Carter (Joyce) of West Jordan, Utah; Earl Carter (Jennifer) of Orem, Utah; LeNoy Carter of Vernall, Utah and one sister, Alda Slaughter of West Jordan, Utah. Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; one son, Michael, a daughter-in-law, Peggy, and a grand daughter Lisa.

A viewing will be held at Walker Mortuary on 646 East 800 North, Orem, on Thursday, February 17th from 6 to 8 pm. The funeral will be held at the LDS Chapel on 400 West 150 North in Orem. Funeral at 11 am on Friday, February 18th, with a viewing at 10 am.
